In a surprise move, the Senate has allocated 12.5 billion euros to purchase a majority share in the world's largest phosphorous mining corporation, Mosaic. The funds, which have been shifted from standard arms procurement, will give the republic direct control over 90% of global phosphorous production.
"Mosaic has been in the red a lot recently," explained Lieutenant Minister of Trade, Sabina Ingra. "So it was an ideal moment for Lenyo to move in and secure greater phosphorous production, which even has defensive purposes. Also, we'll obviously have the ability to improve working conditions in Mosaic's mines."
Mosaic has been troubled by multiple simultaneous miners' strikes, which have halved production in the last two months. The republic has already recognized all relevant trade unions and begun negotiations. Full operation is expected within the next two days, as the Ministry of Trade plans to increase wages 30% and agree to all new safety precautions.
President Marcus Omri has commended SB 2577, the buyout legislation.

Yesterday Lenyoans celebrated Easter in the traditional Lenyoan fashion: [Only admins are allowed to see this link].
To win the game, you must hit the opposing church's bell more times than they hit yours. The next day, after all the inevitable fires have been put out, the two rival churches compare scores, each declaring themselves the winner and vowing to settle the score next year. Ah, tradition.

| Sounds like some terrific fun, minus all the potential property damage. I would love to come see it in person some time President Omri. If you wouldn't mind having me constantly ask questions.

| The Roma Post CimaVax-EGF: Lenyo Announces Release Of First Lung Cancer Vaccine
After 25 years of research, Lenyoan officials have begun production on a vaccine for lung cancer. The vaccine, or CimaVax-EGF, works through the active drug ingredient, which is based on "a protein we all have when cancer is uncontrolled," explained Dr. Roberto Samosa, one of the research team's doctors.
CimaVax-EGF isn't a preventative vaccine, but attacks the already-existing cancer in a patient, PopScience elaborated.
The vaccine has allegedly been tested on 10,000 patients in Oscalantine. It will greatly improve the outlook of patients with what is widely regarded as one of the most deadly and common forms of cancer.
Gisela Gonzalez, head researcher of the project, told the Roma Post that she is optimistic for the drug's future.
"The drug could turn the cancer into a manageable, chronic disease by generating antibodies against the proteins which triggered the uncontrolled cell proliferation. It is not possible to prevent the disease but this vaccine improves significantly the status of the critically ill patients."
More than 14 other forms of cancer are currently in trials for vaccines globally, and only two of those are preventative vaccines.
Although the medical advancement is difficult to confirm 100 percent, there have been significant strides forward in cancer research last month. One of which is a new treatment which has been found to almost completely eradicate leukemia. The next step for that treatment is test it on different types of the cancer, which could include other types of tumors.
The drug Xalkori was also approved earlier this month in KingIsaac for treating the advanced, deadly form of lung cancer for a select group of patients, an idea in line with personalized medicine, the Associated Press reported.
Right now, lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in Oscalantine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 630,000 Oscal deaths from the cancer in 2007.

| President Maro Omri, I am overjoyed to hear about the recent successes of your medical researchers. I dare say that the entire world is. This brings me to the reason for my telegram: I would like to request some of your trials be conducted on terminal patients here in Fideliara. Many patients, after hearing the news, have been begging the government to allow test trials to be conducted on desperate patients. I understand the difficult position this may put you in, and I am sure there are other channels to request this through. But between the two of us I hoped we might make the cogs turn faster for those in need. We will certainly honor any pending patents and the trials can be limited to hospitals willing to sign non-disclosure waivers on the nature and/or composition of the medicines. Let me know what your people think. I hope to hear from you soon. -Alexander II Presiding Monarch of FIdeliara- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CLASSIFIED- Spoiler:
President Omri,
I need to speak with you in person and in private at your earliest possible convenience. This concerns a matter of international security. I also ask that this correspondence and meeting remain just between ourselves and immediate staff you can trust.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To whom it may concern, I am writing on behalf of the Fidelian International News Network (FINN). In addition to our role in international and domestic news we are also run several educational channels several of which I believe play in your country. Anyways, FINN would like to run an hour long special on your team's recent medical breakthroughs. Of course all patent pending information will be kept off-the-record. We merely think this special would be of great interest to the viewers of our FINN Science channel. We can arrange to fly out several members of your team to give interviews and assist in the writing of the segment. Compensation for their time as well as a sizable donation to a charity of your choice would be our ideal form of reimbursement. We eagerly await your reply. -Chip Richards FINN Outreach Director

- The ministry of health is delighted to expand trials of CimaVax-EGF to Fideliara. Lenyo may not be not ready yet for mass distribution, but it is certainly time for an intermediate stage. We also gladly permit FINN to film a documentary of the drug's progress. However, Lenyo requests a quid pro quo scientific exchange.
Fideliaran nuclear technology is the best in the world. And since 45% of Lenyoan electricity is fueled by nuclear fission, we are extremely interested in acquiring Fideliaran designs of nuclear power plants, particularly the advanced heavy water and molten salt reactors. Such a trade would be a very mutually beneficial arrangement, improving the health, safety, and efficiency of our two nations. Hopefully you will oblige us.
Long live the Revolution!

| [[You know if that was the case, I would have auto-played HESS's population dying left and right because of "act of God," right? Autoplay is autoplay, no matter how good of a reason it was.
If I became the APC, then I would have had no problems with it. BUT... I declared that I was going to be absent, and thus I would have been isolationistic, untouchable nation. Thus, the technicality would suggest that this would be violation of the autoplay rules...
But I say meh to that... I suppose... However, I would have to make this post null-and-void... really, would YOU like to one day come back to Tiberiam only to realize that much of your population is dying from some deadly form of disease... when you said that you will be back soon? I am really disappointed at how Lenyo abused my country when I was out.]]

| [I asked you if, for the sake of a RP post, your population commonly smoked tobacco. You said they did, so I gave you the US lung cancer death rate. And since Oscalantine is bigger than the US, the annual death toll is bigger. I gave you warning of a post that would involve Oscalantine and tobacco. And I'm RPing a new patent, like you asked.]
[By isolationist, I never assumed you meant "cannot mention." KI is isolationist right now, but I doubt anyone would throw a fit if a rendezvous took place in Maynilla. You RP a nation where all sorts of recreational drugs are sold freely. Don't be shocked if that results in a RP death toll and a RP market for medicine, even when you're afc.]

| [[Lenyo... let me make this straight... when you are KILLING thousands of people... doesn't matter if it is some disease that can obviously derived from the nation's populous... when it isn't even your COUNTRY... you are autoplaying. That is like... rule number 2 of ANY Roleplaying in general. You are not supposed to play the role of some entity that you have no authority over.
And when you asked... I still have the TG... you simply asked whether my country smokes. Simple as that. And... since Oscal isn't a communist or authoritarian nation that can simply eliminate smoke, it is basically legal. ANY country with some kind of purchasing freedom would allow its population to buy smoke... unless there was some kind of problem.
And... READ. Isolationistic means that you are NOT supposed to play that nation... PERIOD. That was the reason why NO ONE RPed anything in Isis before. Should KI mentioned that he was going to be away for awhile, and I wasn't there to hear it, then once I realized (like now) then I would have pitched a fit and used my SoC privilege to stop ANYONE from messing with KI. That is the rule. It is made PRECISELY because of events like this, actually. Someone would always want to take advantage of whoever just happens to be offline for extended period of time. Sure, it is some random disease killing few thousand... big deal... but if I allow it, what is stopping next person down the line from nuking the isolationistic nation for the heck of it? I doubt ANYONE would want to be nuked.
And... also... this doesn't make sense RP lore-wise. Like I said, Oscal's medications are all under control of Daz Group. Well... not control as much as dominating the market. And let me remind you that Daz Group is a member company... which means that whichever company that is trying to sell ANYTHING in Oscal would have to pay a hefty tariff. So in lore-wise, none of utilizing Oscal population makes sense. Daz would NEVER agree to such a drug coming into Oscal market without a painful procedures. If you go along with that... you are assuming that I went into state of anarchy, and Daz has gathered its assets from Oscal and moved on. Were you assuming that I am in the state of anarchy, when I was obviously saying that I will return?
All in all... not cool. As Oscal's RPer I would never allow it lore-wise. I would never allow autoplaying as SoC. And you have broken the Isolationistic agreement. The post would certainly have to be re-done... at least from the part where my country comes in.
And... for the record... you never said ANYTHING about my country suffering from ridiculous disease or whatnot... you simply asked whether my country is permitting smoke. If you wanted to do this, you should've asked PROPERLY, instead of making jumps and assumptions.]]

Does that mean that: - Daz is the dominant pharmaceutical company, but it has smaller competitors.
- Daz is a pharmaceutical hegemon that will ruthlessly muscle out any and all competition via laws it makes and illicit thugs.
I was assuming #1. If #2 is Daz Group, then I'm going to need to find another population that smokes, since Oscals cannot be test subjects. No point testing drugs in Oscalantine is the medicial lab will mysteriously burn down.
